STORY

2nd-3rd century BC

The oldest form of football was called "Tsu Chu" . It consisted of sending a ball filled with feathers and hair into a small net mounted on bamboo rods.

Middle Ages

Around 1147, in France and the British Isles, the soule appeared. The principle is to throw the ball by hand or with the foot until it is deposited in a goal. It will then be called "football".

In the nineteenth century

In England, in 1848, students from different Cambridge institutions sketched out the first drafts of football rules. Then, in 1863, the creation of the English Football Federation made it possible to adopt genuine official legislation.

December 16, 1860

The first official football match was between Sheffield FC and Hallam FC. However, the number of players was 16 in each team.

1870s-1880s

The first national competition took place in 1872, it was the FA Challenge Cup. The first international football match took place the same year between England and Scotland.  

It was in 1885 that football became a professional sport in England.

In the 20th century

The diffusion of football throughout the world is done mainly thanks to the British.  

The International Football Federation (FIFA) was founded in 1904 in Paris. Less than thirty later, the first World Cup took place in 1930 in Uruguay.

  • 2,198,835 licensees (113,000 under professional status)

  • More than 301,000 professional clubs

  • 150,000 football stadiums

  • Many sports competitions dedicated to football

  • World Cup in Russia: more than 7.7 million local and international supporters made the trip

The stadiums have followed the history of football and have evolved along with it.  One thing leading to another, the stadiums have been developed and modernized. Nowadays, they are true models of technological advancement.
